ECUADOR 2005

A visit to Ecuador, or any part of South America, would not be complete without spending time in the rainforest. For this leg of the trip (which included 7 days in the Galapagos Islands prior to returning to mainland Ecuador), I stayed at Sacha Lodge. The lodge sits on a private reserve encompassing 5000 acres of primary and secondary growth jungle forest, as well as flooded palm forest and Pilchicocha Lake (a black water oxbow lake). The days were spent walking trails throughout the area looking for birds, monkeys, reptiles, spiders and any other creatures we could find. Evenings included canoe rides around the lake and its connected creeks to look for caimans and birds. As with my previous trip to the jungle, making images in this environment can be difficult and while I haven't improved my skill much in this area, it simply is fun to see the jungle.
