YELLOWSTONE 2004

I've often been asked how I decide where to go. It's about what wildlife I want to see and photograph so I planned a trip to Yellowstone to see (hopefully) wolves and have a backcountry experience. I learned that Yellowstone wildlife is best seen from the roads although that is not my kind of trip (too many people, not enough wild spaces), but I spent a day in the park with my wonderful host, Bob Berry, of the Robin's Nest B&B in Cody (www.robinsnestcody.com).  Bob and his wife, Robin, are well-versed in the history of YNP and Cody. That first day was spent seeing wildlife (including a white wolf being tracked by a coyote!).

The remainder of the trip was spent traveling the backcountry on horse-back.  I rode through rain, snow, and finally sunshine. My outfitter, Jett Hitt, a cowboy, a composer, and a Yellowstone outfitter  (www.yellowstone.ws), led me through an area of the park dear to his heart...the Thorofare.

In no way do the following images portray the grandeur of this place; they are but a snippet of my experience there.
